There is nothing more fun and rewarding than reading to a young child. This week we received some new picture books that will be great for this.

Check out:

Goodbye Summer, Hello Autumn by Kenard Pak. A young girl takes a walk through a forest and town at the end of summer. She sees all of the signs of the approach of autumn. Animals are preparing for colder weather, leaves are changing color and dropping from trees, people are getting out their warmer clothes. Beautiful pictures depict all of this as the girl greets the end of one season and the beginning of another.

Bad Kitty, Scaredy-Cat by Nick Bruel. Kitty becomes frightened on Halloween when all of the scary trick-or-treaters come to her house. But then she sees all of the candy and decides that she will not be a scaredy-cat anymore. She will be a Bad Kitty and chase all of the horrible creatures away. In addition to being a fun story, each letter of the alphabet is used several times to show Kitty’s emotions, the types of scary monsters she sees, and how she chases them all away.

They All Saw a Cat by Brendan Wenzel. A cat takes a walk and is seen by all types of creatures. Each creature sees the cat differently and the beautiful pictures show this. We see the cat through the eyes of a dog, a fox, a fish, a mouse, and even a flea. It is interesting to see how the same cat looks so different to each animal. At the end, the cat looks into the water and we can see how it sees itself. This is a fun story about how our perspective affects how we see the world.
