This week we received copies of a local history book that should interest our patrons. The book Black History in Beauregard Parish: “Our People...Our Stories” is now available at our DeRidder Branch. The members of the Beauregard Parish Training School and George Washington Carver High School Reunion Committee, coordinated by Mr. Elmo Monroe, have compiled this informative book to educate future generations about the contributions of these distinguished members of the community. There are many photographs and biographies of those who have played such a vital role in Beauregard Parish and the surrounding area. Readers will learn, or be reminded of the challenges that these leaders faced as well as their triumphs over adversity to achieve great things.

One copy of this book is available for checkout, while the other has been placed in our Reference Room so that it will always be available for reading in the building. If you need help finding it, please ask any of our staff members for assistance.

Also remember, if you use one of our rural branches you may place a hold on the circulating copy and it will be sent to your branch for you to check out. If you are not sure how this is done, please ask the clerk at the branch who will be happy to help you.

This is one of several local history books that are available to our patrons. So be sure and stop in and learn about the fascinating history of our area.
