Find It Fridays
BPL offers access to a wide variety of health information databases that can come in handy when you need to search for medical information. While some of the databases offer scholarly articles and full text journal entries, others were designed to offer basic health information for the consumer.
There are too many great databases to cover in this one segment, so here is one option to get started with, CINAHL. This database contains scholarly information that can be used in reports, classes, or just for your own knowledge. To access CINAHL you will click on the “Louisiana Library Databases” tab on the lefthand side of this homepage. From there, select the Health & Medicine tab.
CINAHL is a valuable database for any patrons who may be studying nursing or want to enter the medical field. This database provides full text articles from over 700 nursing and allied health journals, all which may come in handy when you need to find scholarly sources. The search platform is through EBSCO Host, which we will cover in-depth later in the month (For a quick overview of searching click on this link.) Just like many of our other resources you can access CINAHL both in the library or from the comfort of your own home.
Next week we will look into the Medline database and all that it has to offer. Until then, take some time to poke around CINAHL and see what you can find!
