This week will begin a series of Find It Fridays that concentrate on finding both medical information and medical professionals.

This post will cover two websites that are specifically designed for finding medical professionals. These websites can be very helpful when you need to search for doctors, or want to find reviews on specific medical professionals.

The first website was created by Medicare.gov. Medicare provides a valuable service both when searching for, and comparing, physicians. On the homepage of this website you can chose a “simple” search and enter your zip code as well as the type of physician you are looking for or you can chose the “Additional Search Options” link. Within “Additional Search Options” you have the opportunity to select the preferred gender of the doctor, as well as those that “accept the Medicare-approved amount.” Once you select “search” you will receive a list of results of physicians within a 50 mile radius of the location you entered. If you want to learn more about a medical professional on your results page simply click on their name and you are given the available information. For example: Education, hospital affiliation, location, and Medicare Assignments.

The second website that I wanted to highlight today is healthgrades. Healthgrades is website with no affiliation to the government that was designed to help people find doctors, dentists, and hospitals. Healthgrades recently re-did thir website to create an easier to use format, so if you visited the site in the past make sure to take another look! From the homepage you can search by doctor name, specialty, condition, or procedure as well as location, making it easier to find a doctor near you. One helpful factor is that the reviews of the doctors are posted as well and you can read what other patients have to say.
