Do you ever get overwhelmed by all of the choices here at BPL, or wonder where that certain book you need could be hiding? The online catalog is the best resource for finding the audio, physical, and electronic resources the library has available for your use. With so many materials and titles it can sometimes be difficult to find the exact item you are looking for, this is where the Advanced Search option becomes your friend.

Next time, try this: Instead of entering the book title or the subject you are looking for into the basic search box of our online catalog, located in the top right of the page, choose the Advanced Search option. Once the advanced search screen pops up you can start by mainly focusing on the boxes and drop down menus under search input. Use these drop down menus to search by Title, Author, Subject, Keyword, and Series. The items listed under search filters on the right hand side of the page allows you to filter your search even further by selecting the format of material you want (e.g.Physical book, audio book, DVD), the language, and Fiction or Non-Fiction.

Searching by Title: When you know exactly which book you are looking for the easiest thing to do is search by title. Simply select Title from the drop down menu and enter the title you are looking for. When searching by title you limit your search to records with words related to your entry in the title. For example:Twilight. When you title search “twilight” the only results you receive will have twilight in the title (e.g. Twilight by Stephanie Myers, Twilight by Erin Hunter, Twilight Hunter by Kait Ballenger).
