For this week's Mango Monday we will present Tagalog, a language used primarily in the Philippines. According to Mango, Tagalog is:

An incredibly unique and interesting language born of a fusion of Spanish and Southeastern Asian influence, Tagalog is the official language of the Philippines. And, as the language spoken in the country with the fifth longest coastline in the world as well as some of the most breathtaking rainforests, Tagalog is certainly a gateway to a world full of color and adventure.

All conversational languages give you different language skills to try. Here is the lesson from Chapter 8: Help Me!

  • Help me, where is the nearest hospital? Tulungan mo ako, saan ba ang pinakamalapit na ospital dito?
  • Are you sick, ma'am? May sakit po ba kayo?
  • My head hurts a bit. Medyo masakit ang ulo ko.
  • Here is the number of the hospital. Heto ang numero ng ospital.
  • Thank you. Salamat.

Tagalog is available through both Mango Languages and Pronunciator. Each language product has different interfaces, and some will work better for you depending on what you want to get out of your language experience. Don't forget to take advantage of each product's mobile apps for language learning on the go!

Next Monday we will be back with a new language you can teach yourself with resources from your library.
