Mango Monday: Mandarin Chinese

For this installment of Mango Monday in honor of Chinese New Year on February 19th, we will discuss our offerings for Mandarin.

The Mandarin blurb at Mango reads: "Ni hao! This means hello in Mandarin Chinese, and it is the magic phrase that opens the gateway to an enormous world of exotic sights and sounds. Mandarin Chinese is the official language of Mainland China, and is spoken by over 1.3 billion people around the world. Not only is it an incredibly important language on today’s global economic stage, it is an ancient language filled with beauty, history and cultural significance."

Mango is also set up to offer three different kinds of courses for Mandarin:

  • Conversations
  • Feng Sui
  • Zodiac
You can have fun with the language with whatever interests you. Mango will give you on screen grammar and pronunciation tools to make even the hardest looking Mandarin easier.

In the first Zodiac lesson two people talk through a problem, and you'll learn all the phrases involved.

A: You don't look too well. What's wrong?
B: My mom said that my and my boyfriend's zodiac sign don't match.
A: Weren't you born in the year of the Pig? What's your boyfriend's zodiac sign?
B: He was born in the year of the Monkey. My mom says that Pig and Monkey won't stick to each other to the end. Our marriage won't last long.
A: It seems there is indeed such a saying. Do you believe this yourself?
